Ford SVT Raptor is Inside Line Editors’ Most Wanted Truck of 2010

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

2010 Ford F-150 SVT RaptorAfter testing hundreds of cars and trucks for an entire year, the editors of Edmunds’ Inside Line has chosen their personal favorite vehicles in the year 2010. A total of 6 vehicles made it to their list including the only truck in the line up, the Ford SVT Raptor.

They selected these top six vehicles from the trucks they tested on their tracks by November 1, 2009 and besides the category Inside Classic, they simply chose their most favorite vehicles in the bunch. Every single truck was qualified to win and no price caps or any other stipulation was in effect. To make the list a little more varied, they considered basing their selections on the following needs: speed, luxury, hauling, commuting and family although no strict rules were imposed and every editor had the free will to decide If they wanted to follow it or not.

The chosen truck was the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. Their editors evaluated this truck for 10 whole days and they determined how well it outclasses all the other trucks when it comes to running on the off-road. What sets it apart according to them is how gracefully returns to the earth after stepping on the gas at these conditions.

“This is quite possibly the most unique and entertaining vehicle sold in North America right now,” said Josh Jacquot, Senior Road Test Editor of Inside Line.

The other vehicles on the list are the 2010 Porsche Panamera, the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro, the 2010 Mazda 3, the 2010 Ford Flex Ecoboost and the Instant Classic winner is the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500.

Ford gives aid to widows and orphans of firefighters during LA Auto Show

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

live-ford-dewalt-470-1209Ford honored the fallen Los Angeles firefighters at the Los Angeles auto show, which concluded in the 13th. The auto company will be donating $10,000 to the Los Angeles County Firefighters Widows and Orphans Fund outright and in addition, for every auto show attendee who visited the Ford display, they will be giving $10 and for every person who test drove a Ford vehicle, they will be giving $20 each until the maximum amount of $6,000 per day throughout the duration of the show.

“This is one small way we can give back to the families of these heroes and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow citizens,” said Ford Truck Group marketing manager Doug Scott.

According to R.L. Polk & Co. Class 2-7 emergency Vehicle Vocation registrations, Ford is number one in the Emergency Vehicle Segment and to highlight this feat, they displayed the 2011 Ford F-550 Super Duty XLT chassis cab scheduled to be on sale next spring during the show. The said truck can be customized so that it can be suitable as a fire department first-responder vehicle.

Key modifications to the truck include the new 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engine, as well as the heavy-duty 6-speed TorqShift automatic transmission. Live Drive Power Take Off (PTO) for diesel customers allows the heavy-duty transmission to deliver power to auxiliary equipment as long as the engine is running and the truck is moving. These two key upgrades will allow the truck to perform very well under demanding conditions in these emergency situations.

Also on the Ford F-550 chassis cab first-responder unit are a 300-gallon water tank, an 8-gallon foam cell, 2 pumps, an electric rewind hose reel with 150 feet of hose, a 3-stage winch with 8,000-pound capacity and 100 feet of wire rope.

Pricing now out for 2011 Ford Super Duty’s 6.7L V8

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

6.7-Liter Power Stroke(R) V-8 Turbocharged Diesel EngineFord has now released the price of the new 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine to debut next year. The retail price of this new engine is $7,835, which is exactly the same price offered on the 6.4-liter V8. That’s lower than both GM and RAM’s offerings.

The Ford Super Duty will also not be offered in manual transmission for the 2011 F-Series Super Duty and the base price mentioned will include the six-speed automatic transmission offered standard on the trucks.

A few key points worth mentioning is the fact that Ford has just ended their very long relationship with Navistar and is designing and building this engine independently for the first time in years. In addition, the state will now be requiring all diesel engines manufactured after January 1, 2010 to comply with stricter emission standards that has forced Ford’s competitors to make significant price increases.

To be able to comply with this new federal standard, Ford is using the new Diesel Exhaust Fluid system or DEF system, which can break down harmful Nitrogen Oxide gases into Nitrogen and water vapor when combined with heat and a catalytic converter. This also means periodic DEF refills as an added maintenance to your engine.

Ford Increases F-150, Escape Production

Monday, August 31st, 2009

ford-escape-1

Following the completion of the government’s Cash for Clunkers program, Ford is looking to replenish their stocks to meet the demand for the Ford Escape SUV and the Ford F-150 pickup truck. Ford will be adding additional shifts at the F-150 pickup truck plant in Dearborn, Michigan and on the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner factory in Kansas City, Missouri starting September. This will result in a boost of 10,000 more units of the F-150 truck and 2,400 more units of the Escape SUV at the end of the year.

Ford is fully aware that their August numbers were largely influenced by the Cash for Clunkers program which just recently ended and the minor increase in the production of these vehicles was based on their sales rates before the said program started. Ford experienced their first year-over-year sales increase since November of 2007 in July after GM and Chrysler both went into bankruptcy. Their overall sales increased by 2.4% from last year’s July numbers.

Homeland Security wants the Ford F-150 Raptor for the Border Patrol

Friday, August 21st, 2009

bpraptorlead

Last week, we talked about the 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor and the increasing demand for it. The Raptor has the makings of a speedy and powerful mean machine and The Customs and Border Protection Division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security plans to get a piece of the action the Raptor can bring.

Those who have test driven the Raptor agree that it is indeed a great vehicle. It’s capable of repeatedly speeding through the desert at 100 MPH and jumping 45 feet in the air. And that’s exactly what the Border Patrol needs. The agency supposedly ordered at least ten Ford Raptors, but without the fancy leather and synced up cockpits in the standard high-end package for consumer models. Whether or not they will be going for the 5.4 L Triton V8 or the 6.2 L V8 still remains a mystery, but both of these options will still kick ass on the sand.

Developed in the deserts of Southern California and Northern Mexico, which is exactly the Border Patrol’s route, there’s no vehicle better suited for the job than the Ford F-150 Raptor. Now you really have got to think twice before crossing the border illegally. You might just be in a chase you have no chance of winning.

2006 Ford F650 Pro Loader

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

The Ford trucks that come on to this site are just massive. I remember the first time I saw an F650 "pickup" truck, I was cruising around downtown with some friends. Then, we pulled up behind an F650 at a stop light. The truck was so big and so tall that I could not tell what it was exactly. I could not see the side of it and I really wanted to. So, we followed the truck around the lake. It was big, black, and had really tall stacks. Eventually the truck pulled over, and the owner was kind enough to let us look it over and take pictures.

Today we have Roberts F650 on the site, and I have to say, its awesome! The truck was purchased from Sunrise Ford in Redlands California. It was a special order from the dealer. This babe of a truck has a Caterillar C7 Acert 7.2 Inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine with 300 HP 860 lb-ft torque. Allison 3500 six-speed automatic transmission. Air Bag Suspension. 4 wheel air disc brakes which would sound so so cool. Twin 50 gallon side fuel tanks. Of course it has leather interior and all that good stuff as well.

Surprisingly, Robert was able to get a performance chip for this beast. Its an MP8 box from TS Performance. This increases the motor power to 400HP and 1,100 lb-ft.

Other customizations include Shelby Le Mans stripes to cab, bed and fuel tank covers. Custom side tank covers fabricated, painted and installed. Wheels and tires where added after purchase. Running lights and fog lights added. Custom tail lights. The truck has been autographed by Carroll Shelby, there is a signed metal plate on each fuel tank cover with Shelbys signature. Nice! ( Robert builds and restores Shelby Mustangs for a living. )

"I have a few Ford F350 crew cab duallies all power strokes. I wanted something that was different so here it is. The truck is as big as a house but drives so nice. I get almost 13 miles to the gallon. For such a big truck it sure can move. This truck gets as many looks as a Ferrari. I love to drive this truck. I will be adding a new leather interior, gauge pod and dash wood grain kit soon."

The Ford F-450 – For when you need to pull a house

Monday, September 1st, 2008

When you need to put your house on wheels and drive it across the country, the typical Ford F-Series pickup is just not good enough. You need the Ford F-450 6.4L Diesel. Gary figured this out when he bought an Adrenaline Toy Hauler (House) . That is why he traded in his 2006 3/4 Chevy Duramax for this beautiful Ford F450 pickup.

"Truck is absolutely awesome and makes long hauls a breeze." says Gary. Gary had the bed sprayed with Line-X Bedliner and installed a RollBak Tonneau Cover.

Scott’s 2003 7.3L Powerstroke

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Today's truck gets the "most stuff" award. Definitely one of the most unique trucks that we have featured on Truck Profile. We have a 2003 7.3L Ford SuperDuty Powerstroke that makes a stock truck look like a P50 Microvehicle (can of tuna...maybe smaller). Scott purchased this truck brand new in 2003 from Uftring Motor Mall in East Peoria IL.

"I bought the truck in 03 because diesel fuel was cheaper at the time. Then i added a lift kit and wheels and started to show it at car shows and would win first place, then i was hooked. As all of you can see i did not stop adding to the truck and still today with over $60,000 in it, Im not done.

Everyone asks,  "have you ever taken it off road mudden?". Yes, i have! The first year i got it, went out ditch bang en' and snow drift en' with mud and snow jam packed under the entire body, frame and motor compartment. It took 2 weeks of cleaning and detailing. This truck now does not even see rain or dirt. It is for show only and i drive it too about 30 car -truck shows a year."

As for performance... "It has a heavy duty waste gate & wicked wheel from dieselsite.com. K&N filter, 4" polished stainless cool dual exhaust MBRP, Hypertech programmer, and a few little goodies to help me get 70 psi of fuel pressure and 30lbs of boost. The egt's stay right around 600."

On the outside we have... "Roll Bars, Bull Bar, PIAA Lights, all Chrome Bumper, Ram Air Hood, Lift Kit and Nitto Mud Grapplers."

Scott does ALL of the work and would not even let the dealership touch his truck for the cam sensor recall. The custom flames under the wheel wells took Scott 200 hours, were made from .250" flat stock, cut, filed and buffed to perfection.

This Ford Diesel has about 50 1st place trophies include, Best of Show, Best Interior, Best FORD and Mayors choice.

Scott would like to thank APM Ram air hood, MBRP exhaust, Westin bull bar, Road Max auto polished grill, Boze tow hooks, Recon accessories, Vertical doors, Weld racing, K&N filter, discount tire direct, GoRhino, 101 corvette, e-gauges, Weld racing, Fabtech for their contributions to his truck.

Walt’s 2003 Ford F-350

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Walt purchased his F350 in Pennsylvania. It was a former New Jersey state truck that was used in the clean up of the twin towers. This truck was bought for work during the week and play on the weekends.

Most all of the work and modifications to the truck were made by Walt. He was even pulled over once just so that the trooper could compliment the truck. Here is what he has:

Performance Parts:

  • Air Intake
  • Updated injectors
  • Fuel regulator mod
  • Banks six-gun w\pda
  • T\C lock up switch
  • High idle mod
  • Straight exhaust before the tire
  • ATS Transmission and five star torque converter

Walt still does not know what his 1/4 Mile time is because he broke his transmission at the track! Which, is probably why he is now running an ATS.

For the Exterior we have:

  • Sun visor lights
  • 20inch diamo rims
  • Nitto mudgrapplers
  • 3inch lift
  • Smoked tail lights & headlights
  • Blue turn signals
  • LOTS of lights
  • Pin striping
  • Window tint
  • Rhino liner

On the interior, he has:

  • A Pioneer head unit
  • 2 12inch subs
  • CB radio
  • LOTS of switches
  • PDA
  • Blue gauge lights

One time Walt went to rescue one of his friends' F250 out of a mud bog. They all said, "Nobody has ever made it through the bog". So Walt proved them wrong by going through the bog in 2WD! (Successfully)

Its a fine looking rig, Walt! Personally, I'm a big fan of the lights. Nothing like lighting the road up all around you while traveling at night.
